Satire Blog #1

I think that satire is so popular because it is funny and a way to talk about serious problems in a light way.  This might help people to be able to deal with them better.  A reason why things like “A Modest Proposal” and Borat are considered to be satire is because while they are very funny, they are about political problems that need to be solved.  Something like Scary Movie would not be considered to be satire because it is just funny and there is nothing behind the humor.  The purpose of those types of movies is not to expose problems through humor, but just to give the audience a good laugh.  I guess that I do like satire because I don’t really find it annoying.  While I haven’t seen Borat, I really like the Daily Show and things like that which are very obvious as to which problems they are talking about.

    The Daily Show definitely makes it easy to figure out–though a LOT of people were fooled by The Colbert Report into thinking that that’s the way Stephen Colbert really thinks. Both major political parties had to warn their Congresspeople to be really careful on the show because of how he embarrasses the guests.

    I agree with you on the fact that people can deal with events more if they hear it through humor. There really is nothing behind the straight forward humor of Scary Movie. Where as for sartire, these problems should be recognized.

    Yes, Satires are deffently aimed at political problems in a humerous way. Your correct in saying that although Satire is a form of comedy, it does have a meaning behind it. A satire has a cover over a much deeper issue at hand. Also, go see Borat, your missing out.

    Hey.
    I actually do not know much about daily show show but I have heard of it. It plays on the comedy central channel right? well I was reading your comments and I would have to agree with lizzy and you that that “people can deal with events more if they hear it through humor.” I support your opinion because, I believe that that is the reason why satire is so succesful when it comes to getting the message out through a humurous manner. Oh.. and oh my… you haven’t seen the movie Borat!?!? wow that is a first! I agree with ryan you should deffinetly go see it. remember! that is borat does not get alot of viewers he’ll be executed!!
